Shifted positions is a project I started to develop some months ago, being inspired by a passage of Berio's Violin sequenza.
The aim of this project is to extend the basic string technique of positions toward a wider range of possibilities beyond the chromatic scale. The player is asked to shift the left hand according with a reference position along the fingerboard. The shifting of the left hand without changing the distance among the fingers creates sequences of four non tempered notes with intervals, in the high register, beyond the third minor. The project is currently for Violin, Viola and Cello. Double Bass players who want to take part in the development of the charts are very welcome. The project has been presented for the first time at the Festival Mikrotöne Basel on the 4 May 2019 and during next weeks I will write a paper to describe deeply the process. If you want to take part in the beta testers group who will be quoted in my article, please follow these steps: 1) download the charts; 2) study them a while; 3) fill the survey via this link. Enjoy microtonal positions! Thanks in advance for your cooperation. Maurilio |
